The IDU has the following main functions
- Building the institutional capacity and enhancing the performance of the public sector;
- Updating the laws, regulations and organizational structures of the ministries, public autonomous agencies and municipalities, simplifying their work procedures and entrenching the concept of Good Governance;
- Developing human resources in the Lebanese administrations through generic and specialized training programs;
- Developing the proper legal texts (laws and implementation decrees) for the institutional reforms to be realized;
- Managing and executing programs of cooperation with international donors, as well as local, regional and international organizations in the fields of institutional development and technical support;
- Collecting and classifying studies and reports on public administration issues.
