Scope :  
Excessive diversity in the adoption of computer technology in the Public Sector raised concern. The solution was in guaranteeing uniformity and consistency in ICT projects in the Public Sector. Also this will result in promoting the ICT industry in Lebanon and assisting where possible. To achieve this goal quality standards must become common practice. By applying standards in government for data, hardware, software, procurement of ICT related equipment, ICT packages, and all ICT related project requirements. The ICT Standards and Guidelines Specific Benefits were to: Reduce purchasing costs, Shorten procurement cycles, Streamline ICT interactions between Agencies, Improve relationships with the private sector, Improve training efficiency, Improve compatibility between information systems, Reduce data duplication, Increase operational performance and transparency, Be in line with international ICT best practices, Have a benchmark for performance indicators and  Improve ICT practices.
Standards and Guidelines are broken down into 13 Segments:
  • Standards and Guidelines for ICT Products: Hardware, Networking (includes Cabling), Telecommunications, Database Systems, Operating Systems and Building, Rooms and Environment.
  • Standards and Guidelines for ICT Practices: Quality Management, Software Applications, Selection and Evaluation Framework, Information Integrity and Security,  Data Definition and Exchange,  Risk Management and Configuration Management.
