20.3        Types of Risks in a Project

 

There are three types of risky events in a project:

 

Inherent Risk: these are events resulting from the nature of the Project such as the type of software being developed, the complexity of the network being implemented, Etc.

 

Acquired: these are events that are acquired by the project and are based on decisions taken internally by the Project Team. Usually, such events are under the control of the ICT Manager or the Project Team. For example:

 

Software Development Methodologies

Development Tools

Experience of Developers

Choice of Operating System

Etc

 

External: these events result from factors outside the project or the control of the Project Manager such as:

 

The quality of the tools or the operating software

Change in laws

Social and political events

Force Majeure events

Sicknesses

Etc
